If anything, I am just thinking that the gorillas easily managed to injure each other because of how delicate their skin is, if the gorilla in this match up was bleeding out then it would hinder its performance and exhaust it more quickly. If it didn’t have those claws I’d favor the gorilla much more.Ĭan I ask how does this contradict that gorillas having sensitive skin is not a disadvantage? The matchup is close I’d say the gorilla could overpower the bear but the bear has nasty claws. All I said was this could be a close fight due to the bear’s claws, and that Mammuthus has images of wounds on gorillas from other gorillas that negates the dumb thin/sensitive skin argument and expressing my distaste for it. Why was that post deleted? There was nothing against the rules in there. The heaviest gorilla recorded was a 1.83-metre (6.0 ft) silverback shot in Ambam, Cameroon which weighed about 266 kilograms (590 lb), although the latter area is within the range of the western gorilla, far outside that of the eastern gorilla. The tallest silverback recorded was a 1.94-metre (6.4 ft) individual shot in Alimbongo, northern Kivu in May 1938. A full-grown adult male Eastern gorilla weighs an average of 195 kg (430 lb) and stands 1.7 m (5.6 ft) upright and a female typically weighs 100 kg (220 lb) and stands 1.4 m (4.6 ft). The mountain gorilla is slightly smaller and lighter than the eastern lowland gorilla, but still slightly larger than the western lowland gorilla. The eastern lowland gorilla has a shorter, thicker, deep black fur, while the mountain gorilla has a more bluish color. This is why the older males are sometimes called Silverbacks. When the gorilla gets older, the entire fur becomes grayish, much like the gray hair of elderly people. The fur is mainly black, but adult males have a silvery "saddle" on their back. The face, hands, feet and breast are bald. The eastern gorilla is a large hominid with a large head, broad chest, and long arms. beringei) has only about 700 individuals. graueri) is the most populous, at about 5,000 individuals. At present, the species is subdivided into two subspecies. The eastern gorilla ( Gorilla beringei) is a species of the genus Gorilla and the largest living primate. They are 60–90 cm (2–3 ft) high at the shoulder, and have a body length of 1.4–1.9 m (4.6–6.3 ft). Adult sloth bears weigh 100 kg (220 lbs) on average, though weight can range variously from 55 kg (121 lbs) to 190 kg (400 lbs). Sloth bears sometimes attack humans that encroach on their territory. They feed on termites, honeybee colonies and fruits. Sloth bears breed during spring and early summer and give birth near the beginning of winter. Unlike brown and black bears, sloth bears have lankier builds, long shaggy coats that form a mane around the face, long sickle shaped claws, and a specially adapted lower lip and palate used for sucking insects. The population isolated in Sri Lanka is considered as a subspecies. The sloth bear evolved from ancestral brown bears during the Pleistocene and shares features found in insect-eating mammals through convergent evolution. The sloth bear, also known as the labiated bear, is a nocturnal insectivorous species of bear found wild within the Indian subcontinent.
